    DESCRIPTION
    The coursework within this certificate has been developed to provide credentialing for the Homeland Security profession. The intent is to prepare local, state and federal future Homeland Security leaders to: develop strategies, plans and programs; develop organizational arrangements including civil-military, local/state/federal, and interagency cooperation; and to make sound leadership decisions regarding HLS related policy, priority, scientific advancements, and resources.


    Graduate courses offered at or above the 6000 level may be applied, upon approval toward a master's or Ph.D. program. It is anticipated in the near future, the amplification of the certificate into a master's degree in Homeland Security. This certificate can be used as a stand-alone professional certificate or credit applied, upon departmental approval, to the proposed master degree program in Homeland Security.


    Acceptance into the certificate program remains at the discretion of the Certificate Director and the Deans' Office in the College of Engineering, Public Health, and Arts & Sciences.

     
    SPECIAL ENROLLMENT ISSUES
    Applicants to the certificate program:
    Must document that s/he has the graduate-level knowledge required to enroll in the certificate courses.
    Must hold a bachelor's degree in a related area from a regionally accredited institution of higher education. Related areas include: DOD, current or retired military, or federal, state or local authority involved in homeland security management or admin.
    Must provide original transcripts certified as equivalent to the U.S. bachelor's degree if an international applicant. For more information on international admissions, visit the web site at: http://web.usf.edu/iac.admissions/index.html.
     
    TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
    Distance students must have a computer with WMP 10 and a high speed internet connection.
    ACCESS TO LEARNING RESOURCES
    APEX at USF streams classes live over the internet and then archives the files online allowing for convenient, on-demand viewing. Students must be accepted into the University to participate in the APEX distance program
    and once admitted, register through APEX as a webcast or live broadcast student in order to be eligible. A USF NetID will be required in order to access online services at the Univeristy. The NetID, available to enrolled USF students, allows students to access learning resources online, including access to the USF Library and library services for online learners.     ACCESS TO FINANCIAL AID RESOURCES
    Financial aid opportunities can be discussed with your program advisor. Non-degree seeking students are not eligible for financial aid. Please contact the Financial Aid Office at 813-974-4700 for exceptions and the names of private lenders. In order to be considered a full time graduate student for financial aid purposes, a student must taken 9 semester hours of graduate level work per semester.

    CIS 6930 - Introduction to Homeland Security Technologies (3)
    EGN 5426 - Balancing Homeland Security and Civil Liberties (3)
    SPECIAL GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
    There is a three (3) year time limit for completion of this certificate.
