    DESCRIPTION
    The University of Florida's online certificate program in Forensic DNA and Serology is comprised of five three - credit courses and has been designed to meet the needs of today's working professionals. This program, which is provided by the University of Florida College of Pharmacy is structured to provide the student with a strong foundation in Serology, Nucleic acid chemistry and the theory of DNA analysis. On completion of the 15-credit certificate program students will receive a University of Florida Certificate in Forensic Drug Chemistry. This certificate program is open to appropriately qualified local, national, and international students.

    The certificate program is novel in featuring modules in Biological fluid identification, blood spatter analysis and interpretation of biological evidence. These courses, which can be taken individually, may be of particular interest to law enforcement agents, military personnel, medical personnel, and students wishing to enter the field of forensic DNA and Serology.

    TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
    Students must comply with the standard UF Computer and Software Requirements (http://www.circa.ufl.edu/computers/).

    AOL Users: The AOL browser does not properly display the web pages for the online courses nor does it function properly when using the proxy server to connect to the library. If you use AOL to connect to the internet, you must use either Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer as your browser.
     
    ACCESS TO LEARNING RESOURCES
    Distance students should first contact their program administrator for academic advising. You may talk to a librarian by telephone, email or by instant messaging. You can also call toll free.(1-866-281-6309). Detailed information from all the libraries can be found on the web site. The Health Science Center Library can be reached at (352) 392-4011 or by visiting the website. Library West- the Circulation/Reserve Desk can be reached at 352-392-0345 and online. Material and supply fees are assessed for certain courses to offset the cost of materials or supply items consumed in the course of instruction. Material and supply fee information is available from the academic departments offering the course. To obtain materials, you must contact the specific academic department or college. They have the materials or will direct you to where you need to go to purchase the materials. Books may be ordered online or by calling the bookstore at 352-392-0194 or 800-226-3015.
    ACCESS TO FINANCIAL AID RESOURCES
    Financial aid may be available in the form of a loan for qualified US citizens and permanent residents in both the MS and Certificate programs. Further information can be obtained from Mike Menefee, Assistant Director of Student Financial Affairs.

    It is the responsibility of each student to ensure that financial aid is approved prior to the start of each semester, and to inform the program accountant Mrs. Jennifer Larson (jlarson@doce.ufl.edu) or (352) 392-1711 ext 213) that tuition will be paid via financial aid.

    SPECIAL PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

    Minimum requirements for acceptance:

    A baccalaureate degree in a science subject from a reputable institution.
    A GPA of 2.0 or better.
    For a person whose native language is not English, a minimum score of 550 on the paper-based and 213 on the computer-based TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language).

    SPECIAL ENROLLMENT ISSUES
    Students wishing to subsequently pursue a masters degree at the University of Florida will then have to apply for admission to the graduate school and take the GRE. In this case we would petition the graduate school to accept the 15-credit certificate toward the requirements of the MS degree.
