    DESCRIPTION
    The UALR online master's program in Orientation and Mobility encompasses the use of varied teaching and evaluation techniques to assist children or adults who are blind or visually impaired to develop their orientation and mobility skills in order travel through varied environments and environmental conditions safely, efficiently and gracefully as possible. The program utilizes a web-based format during the academic year and a five-week summers institute in Little Rock. Free room and board is provided in Little Rock by the Arkansas School for the Blind, where the courses are taught in the summers.
    SPECIAL ENROLLMENT ISSUES
    Course work leads towards national certification by The Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP). Applicants lacking specific competencies for ACVREP certification eligibility may enroll in respective UALR program courses to fulfill requirements needed for certification eligibility.
    TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
    A computer system with the following requirements is necessary to complete the online program:

    Minimal computer system: PC Windows based computer with a Pentium 400 MHz or greater with 64 MB or RAM (128 MB of RAM if using Microsoft Office XP) or Macintosh G4 computer. A highspeed Internet connection is strongly recommended.
    ACCESS TO LEARNING RESOURCES
    The campus library is accessible online and offers a complete line of services for the distance learner. The UALR library has a rehabilitation resource site developed specifically for this program. Specific handout materials are posted at the class web site. Internet resources and inter-library loans are used to provide free or low cost access to research materials. Textbooks can be purchased online or ordered from a distance through the campus bookstore. Students enrolled in UALR's Distance Education Classes or Off-Campus Programs, and those who access Ottenheimer Library's services remotely from home or at work have access to a variety of online resources and library services. Library access and use is considered essential to success at UALR and is encouraged from all locations. Toll-free assistance is available by calling 1-800-340-9367.     ACCESS TO FINANCIAL AID RESOURCES
    The Orientation and Mobility program currently has a federal Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) grant that will end in July 2005. Other sources of financial support may be available.
