Housekeeping Services Worker

Salary: $12.07-$14.73 hourly / $2,099-$2,562 monthly / Range: 4326

DEFINITION: Under general supervision, cleans assigned areas of a health care facility, including clinics, laboratories, and administrative offices; and performs minor building maintenance and repairs; and performs related duties as required.


1. Sweeps, scrubs, and mops floors; strips, waxes, buffs, and seals floors using heavy floor care machines; and vacuums, spot cleans, and shampoos carpets.
2. Cleans walls, windows, mirrors, pictures, mini-blinds, bookcases, computer screens, and water fountains; washes, dusts, and polishes furniture, woodwork, shelves, and metal work; cleans rest rooms and replenishes rest room supplies; and collects and empties waste receptacles, including those containing biohazardous materials.
3. Cleans, maintains, and repairs housekeeping equipment and materials.
4. Performs minor building maintenance repairs, including replacing light bulbs, hanging pictures, and mounting cabinets to walls; repairs office furniture; and refers work requiring major maintenance or repair to appropriate sources.
5. Arranges furniture in clinics, conference rooms, and administrative offices; moves and transports furniture and office equipment within and between clinics, administrative facilities, and storage facilities; and moves, transports, and properly disposes of archival files.
6. Opens facilities in the morning and turns out lights and locks doors and windows at the end of the work day.
7. Directs the activities of work-service staff.


1. Some commercial cleaning and minor building maintenance experience; or,
2. equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities.

Possession of valid California Class C Driver's License is required.

Knowledge of: current cleaning methods, materials, and equipment, including cleaning solutions, mops, buckets, wet and dry vacuum cleaners, ladders, and floor care machines; tools used in minor building maintenance and repair; and cleaning and maintenance safety practices.

Ability to: operate heavy floor care scrubbing machines; prepare cleaning materials and solutions, including choosing proper tools and cleaning agents; work in contact with strong cleaning and disinfecting solutions; add and subtract small numbers; speak English sufficiently to communicate with supervisor and fellow employees; understand and follow oral directions in English; read signs, labels, work schedules, and instructions; follow safety precautions and procedures; plan and complete assigned duties within allotted time frames; and work independently and well with others.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: Many of the essential functions of this class are characterized by demanding physical work requiring such physical activities as standing, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching. Moving, handling, and transporting heavy furniture, equipment, and files is also required.
