Data Entry Operator, Senior
DEFINITION: Under direction, to operate alphabetic and numeric
machines in recording and verifying a variety of complex data; may
act as lead worker in a small section or unit, as assigned, and take
part in planning, organizing and directing the work of subordinates
or others; to perform related duties as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: This is the advanced journey person
level in the Data Entry Operator series. Incumbent may act as lead
worker in a small section or unit and take part in planning,
organizing and directing the work of others.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Operates data entry equipment and instructs
subordinate operators in the proper care and use of equipment;
outlines procedures and instructions on data entry jobs; makes time
and cost estimates on new job surveys relating to data entry and
verifying operations; prepares and submits reports; may check
accuracy of data entry work done by others; may act as lead person,
organizing and directing the work of subordinates and others.
1. Eighteen months of experience in keypunch or data entry
2. one year of experience performing duties equivalent to the class
of Data Entry Operator with Santa Barbara County; or,
3. a combination of training, education, and experience that is
equivalent to the employment standard listed above and that provides
the required knowledge and abilities.
Additional Requirements: May require possession of a valid
California Class C Driver's License.
Knowledge of: general and statistical clerical procedures including
coding, indexing, filing, and comparing; data entry equipment.
Ability to: organize and lay out work for others; instruct and train
others; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
