Year Founded:

At Harvard Business School, our mission is to educate leaders who make a difference in the world. Our MBA Program is deliberately intended to be a transformational experience for our students, who in turn go on to change the lives of those around them. In two years at HBS, they build a foundation for a lifetime of leadership. Since its founding in 1908, Harvard Business School has focused on preparing its students for the particular challenges facing the general manager. It is a role that requires a deep grounding in not only analytical skills, but also in strategies and ideas that constitute leadership—the ability to define overarching organizational goals, to achieve them by inspiring other people who may think very differently, to make important decisions with inadequate information, to seize opportunities in the face of uncertainty—in short, to respond creatively to change, and to create change that makes a positive difference. Each year, our MBA Program graduates approximately 900 individuals, eager to test the tools gained in the classroom against the rigors of the real world. By focusing on fieldbased, problem-focused research, and by using the case method to inject that reality into the classroom, HBS offers an education in business that has tremendous power in practice. Building on skills and insights gained at HBS, our graduates make significant contributions in every sphere of management and business, in virtually every corner of the world.
