Final Resume Checklist
When your resume is complete, review it and ask yourself:
- Do sentences begin with action verbs?
- Is the writing style consistent and readable?
- Are grammar, punctuation and spelling correct?
- Is there enough blank space?
- Did you pick the right format choice (chronological, functional,
etc.) to present your background and support your career goal?
- Is the information relevant, specific and concise?
- Are general headings (education, experience, etc.) emphasized by
capitalizing, underlining, spacing, bold-facing, etc.?
- Are accomplishments and problem-solving skills emphasized?
- Are your name, address(es), telephone number(s) and e-mail
address at the top of the first page?
- Is extraneous material eliminated? Extraneous information
includes health, marital status, age, information that is assumed
(such as high school for a college graduate) and out-of-date
information (such as college extracurricular activities for a person
who graduated many years ago).
Now that you're done writing...
Show your resume to your friends and ask for feedback. They might be
able to catch typo's that you missed and offer suggestions on improving
it. And then PRINT it!
Your resume should be laser-printed on bond paper. Paper should be
soft colors, like white, ivory, gray, creme, beige or off-white.
And be prepared to update your resume periodically! |
