Edinburgh Business School
Master of Business Administration (MBA)
The Edinburgh Business School MBA programme is specifically designed
to provide an intellectually demanding and rigorous programme that
enables you to study when you wish, where you wish and to take
examinations anywhere in the world.
The MBA program is modular and each subject matter is covered by a
single course which provides everything you need to master it to MBA
level. Each course will take an average of 200 study hours to complete.
To earn your MBA it is necessary to pass examinations in 7 core
courses and two electives chosen from a range of 20 elective courses.

- Strategic Planning
Each course is self contained and can be studied independently of the
other courses of the MBA enabling the student to choose the order in
which to study each course; this enables the student to focus in a
specific subject field of interest to apply the skills learned to the
benefit of his/her organization.
The duration of the MBA program depends on the methodology the
student chooses. One year for full time students on campus; two years
for a part time executive program and, an average of 3.5 years for
distance students (online).

Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA)
The Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) in strategic focus is
designed for executives who want to apply detailed understanding of
business strategy and research tools to their organizations.
Whereas a PhD will develop professional researches, this DBA will
enable you to use research methods to define, implement, and evaluate
the strategies necessary for your business.
The study element requires to complete 3 core courses and 3 research
based courses, plus 5 elective courses. For the research element the
student works under the direction of an appointed Edinburgh Business
School supervisor.
To be eligible for admission to the DBA, the student must hold at
least one of the following:
- A Heriot Watt University MBA
- An approved MBA or equivalent standard to that currently offered
by the Edinburgh Business School.
- A Masters degree such as MSc, MA, MPhil in a relevant field of
study.
- A PhD in relevant area.
In addition, a minimum of 5 years relevant business experience is
required. The program can be completed in 6 years part time or self
study and on campus in 3 years by full time study.
