The HRIM curriculum consists of liberal arts, business, and specialized courses in technical applications for the hotel, restaurant, and related industries. Theory and skill-based courses are enhanced by an emphasis on practical work experience. Students who successfully complete this program earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management.

Students are required to complete a one-week on-campus resident management institute (Practicum II) at the University of Delaware's Newark, Delaware campus.

Hospitality-Related Work Experience:
Students who are seeking the degree and who are not currently employed in the hotel, restaurant or hospitality industry will be expected to document a minimum of 800 hours of work-related experience in the hospitality industry prior to participation in the Hospitality Management Institute and/or before graduation.

The University of Delaware Library consists of the Morris Library, which is the main library, and four Branch Libraries: the Agriculture Library in Townsend Hall (temporarily housed in the Morris Library during renovation of Townsend Hall from June 1, 1998 for approximately 18 months), the Chemistry Library in Brown Lab, the Physics Library in Sharp Lab, and the Marine Studies Library in Lewes, Delaware. All individuals have walk-in access to the Morris Library and Branch Libraries. The University of Delaware provides access to a wide variety of electronic resources on more than 100 computer workstations located throughout the Morris Library and Branch Libraries. A vast number of these electronic resources are also available to University of Delaware students, faculty and staff via the University of Delaware computing network, accessible in residence halls, classrooms, offices and at home. The Library provides access to DELCAT, the online catalog of library collections, and provides access to more than 70 Library Networked Databases including bibliographic and full text information. The Library provides access to the complete World Wide Web, which contains millions of links to Web sites throughout the world. To assist users in navigating the World Wide Web, the Library has created more than 90 subject Web pages in academic disciplines. Each subject Web page includes a "Guide to Internet Resources" section which point to a selection of some of the best Web sites in each subject area. The "Guide to Internet Resources" is accessible to all users via the Library Web.

The University is also a sponsor of National Merit and National Achievement Scholars. Scholarship-quality athletes are generally identified by our coaches, who recruit on the basis of athletic skill. You may apply for a music scholarship by calling the Music department at (302) 831-2577 and arranging an appointment for an audition. Scholarship audition dates are December 4, 1999, January 22 and February 12 and 26, 2000. Music department scholarships are generally reserved for music majors and minors (although exceptions may be made for students playing certain instruments.) In addition, the Music Merit Program provides private study opportunities for other qualified students who wish to study applied music. Need-based Aid

This determination is made only at the time of formal application to the University. Credits, completed with a grade of "C" or higher, must be applicable to a degree program offered by the University of Delaware.
