DESCRIPTION
- Students will take lower-level prerequisite courses at TSUD,
Wallace or ESJC; -- pre-engineering courses at TSUD; and then take
engineering courses from UA via QUEST. A mobile, completely equipped
UA engineering laboratory will be stationed on the TSUD campus where
students will take laboratory classes and conduct other hands-on
activities. The arrangement, combining distance learning with a
mobile engineering lab, is believed to be the nation's only such
means of earning a bachelor of science degree in engineering.
Plans are to eventually use the World Wide Web and Intercampus
Interactive Telecommunication Systems (IITS) for the distance
education program. The Web will be used to deliver lectures,
assignments, supplementary materials, and to allow teacher-student
communication. In IITS, already scheduled for installation at TSUD,
a network of conference rooms is established around the state for
live connections to the UA campus. This will allow groups of
students in Dothan to confer with students and faculty in Tuscaloosa
and to work on projects or assignments outside of class.
