DESCRIPTION
- This new leading-edge program combines the strengths of
traditional management principles and practices programs with the
art and science of traditional and emerging communication strategies
to provide the essentials and enhancements required for a successful
career in business or the Christian community. Graduates will
especially be prepared in such essential areas as management,
leadership, team building, decision-making, critical thinking, and
the knowledge of the relationship between communication strategies
and the successful manager in today's fast-paced workplace. Students
will be exposed to related theories, operations, practices, and
technologies in both for-profit and non-profit arenas. It also
provides preparatory training for law school, graduate school,
public relations, sales, management, church management, government
work, and many other management and human interaction areas.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Recommended requirements:
Hardware: Minimum requirements for Windows: 200 MHz (400 MHz
preferred) Pentium R processor or equivalent, 32-64 MB of RAM (64MB
RAM preferred), V.90-56Kbps modem
SCU will work with students to help determine if their computer,
etc. is adequate.
ACCESS TO LEARNING RESOURCES
- SCU's learning resources is available through its online
catalog. Students may view SCU's holdings and request resources via
the Internet. First Search program is available online to registered
students. First Search and ProQuest Database give students access to
65 databases, including the Library of Congress, and the ATLA index.
These databases include abstracts and full texts of many sources. In
addition to SCU's monograph collection which exceeds 70,000 volumes,
there are over 275 subscriptions in either print form or through
full-text databases, along with another one hundred subscriptions of
general religious interest. Back files of these titles and others
are also available, along with the proper indexes to facilitate
their use.
The University Resource Center has protocol agreements with a number
of institutions, allowing its students full or limited use of their
facilities. These agreements allow its students to expand their
research process through access to other collections.
The interlibrary loan program supplements local holdings. SCU is a
member of the American Theological Users Group (ATUG), which allows
access to the collections of 150 theological schools through an
online database.
The University of Alabama in Huntsville has issued a letter of
intent to SCU stating that it will provide Library and Research
Services to Southern Christian University for its Distance Learning
programs beginning the Fall 2001.
Students can request materials from SCU's library by calling
1-800-351-4040, ext. 120. Students are provided with a textbook and
publishers list so that they can order their textbooks directly from
the publishers, thereby avoiding any markups.
ACCESS TO FINANCIAL AID RESOURCES
- All students making application to the program receive a
financial aid packet. The packet includes information on how
students can complete their Application for Financial Aid online.
Also included is an institutional scholarship application, whereby
students can apply for need-based and academic-merit scholarships.
Also, students enrolling in the program on a full time basis receive
a 50% scholarship on tuition.
SCU is in the process of web-enabling the entire Financial Aid
process.
