DESCRIPTION
- The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) program is a
baccalaureate completion program designed for licensed registered
nurses with an associate degree or diploma in nursing. The core
coursework in nursing follows the American Association of Colleges
of Nursing (AACN) Essentials for Baccalaureate Education. Students
follow a sequentially developed curriculum that builds on previously
learned nursing knowledge and clinical experiences.
Classes are taught in an interactive online format with students and
faculty interacting throughout each week. A 50 hour community-based
nursing practicum is completed by each student during the last
course. Students are required to develop and implement a project
during this practicum.
In order to graduate, students must complete 30 credits of general
education courses, 6 credits of cognate courses, and 36 credits of
nursing courses. RN students receive 61 prior learning credits for
their RN license. TOTAL DEGREE REQUIREMENTS: 121 semester hours

ACCESS TO LEARNING RESOURCES
- Students are provided academic and administrative support by the
Nursing Department抯 RN to BSN Program. The program office
coordinates the scheduling of faculty and courses, provides
advisement to students, organizes registration, advises students,
and monitors student progress. Students may reach the RN to BSN
Program through email or telephone or in person on the Fifth floor
of the Terry Building on the main NSU campus.
The university抯 library system provides off-campus students almost
all of the library services available to on-campus students. The
online catalog, NovaCat, is accessible to students and faculty
members wherever they may be located. The library system provides
access to more than 10 million volumes and 200 subscription
databases and provides online access to a variety of full-text
resources including 20,000 unduplicated full-text journals, 260,000
dissertations, 70,000 ERIC ED documents, and 27,000 ebooks. Students
may request delivery of books and other documents to their homes or
offices. Requests can be made via online forms or fax. Journal
articles can be e-mailed, mailed, faxed, or scanned and accessed
digitally from the student's desktop. These services are provided by
the Alvin Sherman Library抯 Document Delivery Department and the
Health Professions Division Library, which can be reached by
toll-free phone, email, or via the web. Students can request up to
25 free documents per week while they are enrolled. Print materials
sent to students in the United States are sent by first-class mail.
Students also may call the HPD or Alvin Sherman Library抯 Reference
Desk for reference information, advice on research strategies and
resources, and suggestions on other library resources that may be of
use. The desk is staffed 90 hours per week. To send questions after
hours students should use email. The university抯 website provides
instructions on the use of the library.
The NSU Student Information System enables students to access and
update their personal information online using their web browsers.
The university抯 WebSTAR system gives students the ability to review
their grades, print unofficial transcripts, review financial aid
information, and review their financial account balances.
The Help Desk of the university抯 Office of Information Technologies
(OIT) provides assistance with many online technology issues via
phone or email support. Examples of services include help with
connecting to the university from home; configuring a PPP
connection; troubleshooting email account problems; navigating
through WebCT; setting up Outlook, Netscape Navigator, and Internet
Explorer; and other technology issues.
The school, using WebCT as an online course management system,
provides a range of tools and methods to support faculty-to-student
interaction including online discussion boards, chat rooms, white
boards, email, telephone, and a system for online submission, review
and grading of assignments. Professors also use email, the
telephone, and fax.
The IZone within NSU抯 Office of Information Technologies maintains a
website which provides students with an online orientation,
including tutorials, to WebCT, email, and other methods necessary
for coursework completion.
ACCESS TO FINANCIAL AID RESOURCES
- The Office of Student Financial Assistance administers the
university抯 financial aid programs of grants, loans, scholarships,
and student employment and provides professional financial advisers
to help students plan for the most efficient use of their financial
resources for education. In order to participate in financial aid
programs, a student must be admitted into a university program and
must be a citizen, a national, or a permanent resident of the United
States, or be in the United States for other than a temporary
purpose. A prospective student who requires financial assistance
must apply for financial aid while he or she is a candidate for
admission. Students/applicants may apply for financial aid online.

students must demonstrate satisfactory academic progress toward a
stated educational objective in accordance with the university抯

SPECIAL TRANSFER POLICIES
- General education courses may be completed at any accredited
community college if applicant completes them prior to matriculating
into the nursing program (30 semester hours). Upon matriculation,
general education courses must be completed at NSU.
SPECIAL ENROLLMENT ISSUES
- The nursing department has rolling admissions for the program,
and applications are accepted year round. Candidates must submit all
applications and transcripts by August 1 for priority consideration
for the August entering class and by December 1 for priority
consideration for the January entering class.
SPECIAL ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS
- None.
SPECIAL PROGRAM PREREQUISITES
- An overall GPA 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Proof of current
registered nurse (R.N.) licensure. Licensure must remain current
throughout the program.
