DESCRIPTION
- The Master of Science in Physical Education program is designed
for K-12 physical education teachers who wish to expand and/or
update their knowledge of physical education content and teaching
skills. It is appropriate for individuals who are certified in
physical education and who have been teaching physical education in
a school environment. The MS degree program is designed for both
elementary and secondary teachers.
SPECIAL ENROLLMENT ISSUES
- Graduates of distance learning programs at Florida State
University receive the same diploma and transcripts as students who
graduate from traditional on-campus programs. Official transcripts
do not differentiate on-line from traditional on-campus courses or
degrees. Graduates are welcome to participate in commencement
ceremonies.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
- To participate in FSU's online programs, you need access to
certain technologies. To minimize technical problems you may
experience, FSU provides online technical support.
To be successful in your online class, you must have:
Regular access to a computer
An Internet connection (ISP or Internet Service Provider)
An Internet browser
An FSU/ACNS computer account, which includes your login/username,
password, and email account

If you plan to use computer equipment that you do not own for
participation in the program, be certain that you have permission to
use the equipment for course work purposes. You must also be sure
that you have permission to save data to the local hard drive.
ACCESS TO LEARNING RESOURCES
- Online students at FSU can find support for every aspect of the
University experience. Your computer and an Internet connection link
you to the most comprehensive electronic campus in higher education.
The FSU library may be reached at el: 850-644-2706. Currently
enrolled students who are located 50 miles or more from Tallahassee
can request materials to be sent to them. Some of your online
courses may require you to purchase a Course Packet, which could
include a study guide, textbooks, and/or media (video, audiotapes,
CD-ROMs). Information about what, if any, course materials are
required for your courses can be found through: Campus bookstores (FSU
Bookstore and Bill抯 Bookstore), Departmental web sites, Course
instructors, Academic Coordinators. Course materials can be ordered
online and will be shipped directly to you. (You pay the cost of the
course materials, plus shipping. The FSU bookstore can be reached at
1-800-255-3781. A mentor or teaching assistant is available online
(and often by phone) to help clarify course materials and refer you
to resources for all other aspects of the university experience.

ACCESS TO FINANCIAL AID RESOURCES
- Distance students enrolled in at least 6 semester hours have
access to many of the same types of financial aid as residential
students. If you need financial aid to help defray the costs of your
education, begin to investigate the aid you may be eligible for as

SPECIAL PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
- The program is a minimum of 33 semester hours. All coursework is
available on-line. Two required courses are offered each fall,
spring, and summer semesters.

SPECIAL GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
- After one semester and prior to the end of the second semester
of taking graduate courses, students will establish their
supervisory committee and file a program of study in the Office of
Academic Services. Near the end of the student抯 course work,
students will take a comprehensive examination given by the student抯
supervisory committee.
ACCESS TO ADVISING/MENTORING SERVICES
- Although the course materials you will use are designed for
self-directed learning and the professor of the course will also be
interacting with students on a regular basis, you may need or want
additional help as you progress through a course. To support your
progress and help you feel like a member of a learning community,
most of the courses have a graduate student teaching assistant to
provide that additional assistance. You will be able to communicate
with the teaching assistant via threaded discussions, e-mail, phone,
or fax. FSU抯 course management system also provides for extensive
student-to-student communication via chat and group web-sites to
help students develop and participate in a learning community.
SPECIAL TRANSFER POLICIES
- Students entering the program with graduate hours in physical
education can transfer up to six hours subject to the supervisory
committee抯 approval.
