DESCRIPTION
- The criminal justice program at Florida Gulf Coast offers a
unique curriculum developed by top academicians and practitioners in
the various fields of criminal justice. The program builds on a sold
liberal arts core and provides students with a sound foundation in
all aspects of the criminal justice system, including law
enforcement, corrections, the judiciary, juvenile justice, and
probation and parole. The program's objective is to develop a sound
educational foundation for either graduate work or for professional
practice at the bachelor's level. the carefully selected Criminal
Justice Core provides students a balanced perspective on the broad
criminal justice system. Thereafter, they have the opportunity to
specialize in law enforcement, corrections, legal studies or
juvenile justice. Courses are delivered in both traditional and
electronic format using primarily a web-based delivery system. This
is a new program designed to meet the needs of working professionals
and is therefore entirely available by electronic means. Currently,
there are over 100 students enrolled in the program.
SPECIAL ENROLLMENT ISSUES
- 1. Internships are required and can be arranged at the student's
home location with the Internship Coordinator.
2) On-line tutorial is required.
3) Some exams require proctoring.
4) Service learning requirement.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Students need a computer/modem combination that will adequately
support an Internet browser. FGCU supports Netscape Navigator and an
e-mail client program capable of handling MIME file attachments.
It is recommended that students have the following minimum
configuration: Windows 95/Mac OS 7.x, 16 MB RAM (32 preferred), 28.8
KB Modem (36 preferred), and a color monitor (SVGA preferred).
Eudora and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) are
used in conjunction with almost all courses. Additional software may
be required for some courses.
ACCESS TO LEARNING RESOURCES
- Students may access the Univesity Library electronically. They
must obtain an 14 digit ID number that enables them to access
materials through WEBLUIS for purposes of course work and research.
In addition, the library provides special support to students at a
distance for obtaining or reproducing research for their course
work. Off campus e-databases are also available for all students.

ACCESS TO FINANCIAL AID RESOURCES
- To better accommodate the needs of our students, the Offices of
Admissions, Financial Aid, Freshman Advising, and Registration and
Records at Florida Gulf Coast University now have extended hours.
Beginning Tuesday, Jan. 22, hours for these offices will be: 8 a.m.
to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday.
