Located in the southeast corner of Washington State, WSU prides
itself on being a diverse, PAC 10, residential university.
Nationally and internationally, the university is recognized for its
faculty and research programs. WSU offers 110 undergraduate, 60
master's and 42 doctoral degree programs.
In addition to the 600-acre main campus at Pullman, the
university maintains branch campuses in Spokane, the Tri-Cities area
and Vancouver, as well as several thousand acres of agricultural
research land throughout the state. WSU's research centers include
the International Marketing Program for Agricultural Commodities and
Trade, the State of Washington Water Research Center, the Laboratory
for Atmospheric Research, James Entomological Collection, the
Owenbey Herbarium, the Jewett Observatory, the Electron Microscopy
Center, and the University Library, which is qualified for
membership in the Association of Research Libraries.
The Department of Sociology's doctoral program ranks in the top
15 nationally, according to the Conference Board of the Associated
Research Councils. The broadcasting sequence of the Department of
Communications is one of the top five in the nation; among its
alumni is the broadcast pioneer Edward Murrow.
Housing is available in residence halls, on-campus single and
family apartments and fraternities and sororities. The university is
the largest residential university west of the Mississippi, with
over half of its student body living on campus.
There are approximately 16,000 undergraduate and 2,000 graduate
students. Of these, minorities make up 12% and Hispanics 2% of the
total.
