More Free Sample College Admission Essay
The first time I read through the essay choices for my
application to Coe, I have to admit, I was a little surprised. Most
colleges ask you to write about your high school activities, a
mentor that has changed your life, or how you overcame an obstacle
and became a better person in doing so. The topic that stuck out the
most to me was what I would pack for college if given only ten
minutes. My first thoughts were �Clothes! Money! Cell phone! Ten
minutes?!� But when I really thought about it, I realized I don�t
need to bring any of those things. Yes, I will need clothes, and
like every college student I will need money. But money can be sent
and clothes purchased fairly cheaply when necessary. What I can�t
replace are memories.
At home, next to my bed, I have a large box full of photos. Some are
organized into small albums, some are loosely organized in piles,
and others are just everywhere helter-skelter. They are my memories
of the last 17 years. There are family photos and pictures of old
pets. There are pictures of my brother and I playing in leaves in
our yard. There are pictures of Christmases past and of weddings and
births and all the momentous occasions of my family�s life. There
are also pictures of friends. In my box, I have pictures of my best
friend Emily and I, who have been friends since the second grade.
There are embarrassing pictures of those awkward middle school
years, which I always contemplate throwing away, but I can never
seem to do it. There are pictures of every high school play I have
helped with and the people I�ve met in drama. I have pictures of my
boyfriend and all my friends, having fun and being kids. This box of
memories is irreplaceable and I would not move out without it.
Leaving people behind and starting anew can be hard, and whenever I
need to feel comforted I can look at my photos and remember there
are people who love me and care about me.
I will pack my old photos to help remember my life so far, but I
want college to be a new place where I meet new people. I want to
make new memories, and in order to do so; I will need to bring my
camera and plenty of film. For some kids, it can be difficult
leaving the only home they have ever known and striking out alone
for the first time. They have a hard time making new friends and
starting conversations. I don�t want to be one of those students. I
fully intend to be just as outgoing in college as I am in high
school. I will be involved in student life and meet new people. I
plan on going new places and learning new things. I want to take new
photos to add to my box.
I love my friends and family and I plan to maintain the
relationships I�ve made in high school. At the same time, I plan to
make the most out of my college experience. I want to make new
memories and I would love to make them at Coe. Thank you for taking
