Located in the Cultural Center area of Detroit, Wayne State
University is a principal research university. Its location offers
access to a number of facilities including the Detroit Institute of
Arts, the Detroit Historical Museum, and the world headquarters of
the General Motors Corporation. The university offers graduate and
professional programs through 13 schools and colleges, including
business, education, engineering, law, medicine, nursing, pharmacy,
and social work. The WSU Hilberry Theater offers the nation's first
and only full-season graduate repertory company. College-owned
apartments, including on-campus family housing, are available.
Programs of special interest include graduate studies in hazardous
waste control, community health services research and evaluation,
and a doctoral program in medical physics. Special facilities
operated by the university include the Center for Molecular Biology,
the Institute for Manufacturing Research, and the Institute for
Chemical Toxicology. The Reuther Library of Labor & Urban Affairs is
the largest archival library of its kind in the United States.
