Chief Building Inspector
Salary: N/A
DEFINITION: Under general direction, assists the Building and
Development Official in administering County building ordinances;
assists in the division's management and program planning; performs
related duties as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Plans and directs the work of area supervising
inspectors; assists in building inspection program planning for the
division; provides technical assistance in at least one specialty
field such as plumbing, electrical, mechanical, state handicap,
energy or structural plan review; may perform inspections and plan
checks which include complex technical building problems; confers
with county officials, owners, architects, engineers, contractors,
and others as building code interpretations and applications;
reviews operations of branch offices; acts as Building and Safety
Division training office; participates in selecting, assigning, and
training staff and other personnel actions; assists the Building and
Development Official and Senior Development Engineer as necessary.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
1. Four years of experience performing duties in the field of
building code inspection and enforcement, including at least one
year supervising other building inspectors; or,
2. one year of experience performing duties equivalent to the class
of Building Engineering Inspector, Supervising with Santa Barbara
County; or,
3. a combination of training, education, and experience that is
equivalent to one of the employment standards listed above and that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
Additional Requirements: Possession of a valid California Class C
Driver’s License is required.
Knowledge of: State and local laws and regulations pertaining to
building inspection and safety; current principles and practices of
building inspection, plan check, and permit issuance in all phases
of general inspection and at least one specialty field; building
methods and materials; general personnel practices.
Ability to: plan and administer building division programs; direct
building inspection personnel; plan and oversee division training;
study building code changes and inspection requirements and
recommend necessary changes to meet them; perform difficult building
inspections and plan checks; work cooperatively with the public,
county officials, building contractors, property owners, civic and
professional groups and others; prepare correspondence and reports. |
