DEFINITION: Under general direction, performs complex technical
duties in interior design and inspection and coordination of capital
projects; performs related duties as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
1. Consults with contractors and consultants on questions of design,
scope of work, cost, and bidding; estimates costs; prepares and
negotiates contracts, change orders, and inspection reports;
certifies payment requests; maintains construction records; and
prepares claims on grant-funded projects.
2. Coordinates with consultant architects and engineers concerning
projects under proposal or construction and maintains appropriate
records; inspects and monitors construction to ensure compliance
with project specifications; coordinates contractors and maintenance
personnel; assists maintenance personnel with problems relating to
existing buildings.
3. Performs long-range and short-term planning for County's space
needs; conducts needs assessments to determine area and utility
requirements; determines feasibility of leasing or buying space and
makes recommendations accordingly; studies space requirements and
makes recommendations regarding interior design; prepares detailed
drawings and specifications for building alterations, new buildings,
and miscellaneous construction projects for bidding and construction
purposes.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
1. Completion of 24 semester units or 36 quarter units of college
coursework in architecture, engineering, interior design, drafting
technology, or a closely related field, AND two years of experience
in architectural or interior design, architectural or engineering
project management, or architectural inspection; or,
2. equivalent combination of training, education, and experience
that would provide the required knowledge and abilities.
Knowledge of: project management; contract administration;
structural, mechanical, and electrical design principles;
architectural design principles; interior design principles related
to space planning; computer-aided drafting (CAD); building plans,
elevations, sections, and perspective drawings; laws, ordinances,
and regulations applicable to building construction, maintenance,
and repair; cost-benefit analysis.
Ability to: prepare architectural renderings, drawings, and
specifications; use CAD software; prepare requests for proposal;
collect and analyze information, draw conclusions, and make
recommendations; keep records; coordinate requirements and work of
other County employees, contractors, sub-contractors, and consultant
architects and engineers; organize and prioritize tasks; communicate
and cooperate with design professionals in other disciplines.
