Appraiser Aide
Salary: $15.28-$18.66 hourly / $2,658-$3,245 monthly /
Range: 4800
DEFINITION: Under immediate supervision, performs a
variety of technical tasks in the support of professional appraisers
conducting property valuation for tax purposes; and performs related
duties as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: The Appraiser Aide is a
paraprofessional support class designed to provide a career ladder
between clerical classes and the professional Appraiser series.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
- With the aid of a specialized computer system, performs
calculations such as square footage and property base year values;
measures and prepares scale drawings of improvements.
- Reads, reviews, and determines the accuracy of building,
zoning, and land division permits relating to the nature of the
construction, date, permit number, and parcel number; initiates
new property records, building records, data records and
miscellaneous appraiser records for use by appraisers.
- Assists in routine field evaluation by gathering information
from conversations in the field, phone conversations or other
means; determines stage of completion on new construction;
collects data on quality, age, condition, lot size, plotting,
zoning and other use restrictions and forwards the information to
appraisers for use in valuation analysis and appeals resolution.
- Uses existing tables to determine value of structures
previously classified by certified appraisers; records and
transmits data in approved form for value conclusions; assists in
organizing and collecting data for use in assessment appeals or
tax exemption filings.
- Composes letters and correspondence to taxpayers regarding
inquiries and questions; writes reports for supervisor and
professional appraiser regarding information gathered or work
completed.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
- One year of experience providing office support, preferably in
an office of a County Assessor, realtor, construction company,
architect, or title company; or,
- completion of one year of college coursework, preferably
including classes in computer-aided drafting, architecture, real
estate, or a related field; or,
- a combination of training, education, and experience that is
equivalent to one of the employment standards listed above and
that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
Knowledge of: office practices and procedures; arithmetic
and basic geometry; English grammar and usage; computer
applications, including current word processing, spreadsheet, and
data base programs.
Ability to: learn assessment functions; learn construction
and appraisal terminology and procedures; learn to prepare scale
drawings of improvements; gather and evaluate data for appraisal
purposes; make accurate calculations; understand and follow rules,
instructions, and procedures; read and interpret blueprints and
sketches; keep accurate records; accept and promote suggestions,
recommendations, and process improvements; accept accountability and
responsibility for work product and job performance; communicate
effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain
effective working relationships with staff and the public; elicit
factual information from property owners, builders, attorneys, real
estate professionals, other government representatives, and the
general public for use in the appraisal of property. |
