Wake Forest’s
Babcock School is highly ranked among the world’s leading graduate business
schools. Its MBA program offers experiential, hands-on education. Personal
interaction characterizes the learning environment, and the program
emphasizes entrepreneurial thinking and teamwork. Class sizes provide
greater opportunities to exchange ideas with faculty and classmates, hone
communication skills and support analyses. Highlights include: summer
international management study tours, to destinations in Asia, Europe and
Latin America; laptop computers issued, with costs included in tuition; the
Wake Forest Marketing Summit and MBA Marketing Case Competition; the
Elevator Competition; and the Angell Center for Entrepreneurship.
Most Babcock courses rely heavily on the case method of instruction. In
first-year class sections, students apply knowledge and problem-solving
skills acquired in one class to situations in another. This culminates in a
demanding three-day integrative exercise, in which first-year student teams
are given a major, strategic organizational problem. The exercise tests the
team’s ability to apply skills learned in the classroom to a complex
business problem and to develop an effective cross-functional solution under
time constraints. Because of the integrated curriculum, every student is
required to take all first-year courses plus two electives. In the second
year, students focus their studies in a Career Concentration in
Consulting/General Management, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Marketing or
Operations Management. An independently designed concentration is available
by petition. The Management Consulting Practicum, which requires a team of
students to serve as consultants to a business or nonprofit organization, is
a second-year requirement for students with less than three years of work
experience.
