General Management Career Description
General management training programs are designed to develop and
retain the managerial talent that companies will need in the future.
Selection is usually highly competitive, and the program itself may
range from one to three years.
The programs usually combine formal training and rotational
assignments to familiarize associates with all aspects of the
business and areas of the company. You may work in areas as diverse
as finance, technology, international, strategic planning, marketing
and/or operations. Rotational programs usually include formal
mentoring relationships, exposure to high-level executives and
regular performance appraisals. Additionally, programs may include
individual skill assessments and personalized training. After
completing the program, associates are given a great deal of input
into the determination of their post-training assignment.
